FLYCATCHER is a unique day boat design closely based on the Cape Cod Catboat of America. LOA 14.75ft and 6.9ft beam, giving great stability and carrying capacity for the family. The single, off white, gaff Catsail (162 sq ft) made by McNamara makes for easy handling. The exceptionally strong hollow mast is by Noble and unstayed.
She was built in 2017 by Cserve, designed by Stock & Adams and featured in Classic Boat, March 2018; OGA Gaffers Log 96, March 2018; and Catboat Association (of America) Bulletin No 175, Winter 2018.
The hull is constructed in Corecell with Flexiteek decks, to minimize maintenance - plus there is a good deal of natural teak, Sitka and Douglas (spars) in the boat which is finished in Awlwood - all resulting in a classic appearance. Biege polyester/Dyneema cordage throughout adds to the traditional look. Hardware is by Harken. The hull below the waterline is finished in Coppercoat. The topsides are in Awlgrip 'Stars & Stripes' blue.
The laminated modern NACA foils are very efficient designs and vastly improve performance and pointing ability over other catboat designs based on early 20th century specifications (viz. barn door rudders)
The boat is offered with a custom built combi launching and road trailer which has been very lightly used since new in 2017, because the boat has been kept on a deep water mooring at Bosham and has been craned in/out of the water.
Included is an E-Propulsion Spirit 1 motor with long shaft, which can be neatly mounted on the side deck, giving the equivalent of 3hp.
The boat has been over wintered in a dry, enclosed barn and always had a full cover protecting sails, cockpit and bright work when afloat - thus keeping the boat in excellent condition.

Flycatcher is ideal for family use as there is ample room under the foredeck for picnic stuff and a trip to the beach.
Above the bench seats and under the side deck, are storage shelves with fiddles.
A catboat provides not only provides a great deal of space because of it length beam ratio of 2:1 - but also superb stability, making sitting out unnecessary.
This is a DAY BOAT not a dinghy and should be kept on a mooring (as Flycatcher has been and afloat at all states of the tide)
The 2017 construction is Corecell planks built up over a temporary build frame. The hull is finished in Stars and Stripes Blue Awlgrip. The decks are in an epoxy texture finish coloured off white.
The waterline boot top is in white hard racing antifouling and below the waterline is Coppercoat.
Coaming and bench seats etc are in teak - finished in Awlwood varnish.
Foredeck and duckboards are Flexiteek. The rubbing rail is natural teak finished with Semco.
The NACA foils are laminated and the tiller bifurcated. The lifting rudder foil and the tiller are finished in Awlwood
Materials and coatings were chosen for maximum longevity, minimum maintenance and a traditional look. Consequently, the whole boat is in pristine condition.
There are NO HOLES in the hull whatsoever meaning there can be no moisture in the hull construction.
The boat was professionally built by C-Serve of Poole with no expense spared.

Built by Noble Mast in 2017: Mast of Douglas fir, hollow and unstayed. Boom and Gaff in Sitka Spruce. All spars finished in Awlwood.
The 162 sq ft sail is by MacNamara in a beige colour and brown stitching for the authentic look; as well as radial reinforcement patches and carefully spaced panels to achieve the same end. The sail is laced to the spars and controlled with a Harken ratchet block on the aft end of the centreboard. A simple bifurcated traveller control line allows for fine adjustment of the boom. The sail has been laundered annually and stored indoors.
Lazy jacks makes sail handling easy when single handed sailing. One single line reef point is available for winds 15-20 kts.
All the beige coloured control lines in polyester/Dyneema come under the foredeck for neatness and on to a console of colour coded Harken cam cleats for easy identification.
