We are unexpectedly selling our lovely boat ‘Nina’, in order to move onto land nearer elderly parents.
Nina is an absolute delight to be on - spacious and comfortable, and perfectly set up for cruising and living. Having had two other boats over several years, she has been a game changer on the water for us. We've found her very easy to run, wonderful to be in, spacious enough to have eight around the dinner table, and to our delight, at 50x10ft, no issues at all finding spaces to moor in and around London. We very much recommend her! She's got a double bedroom, and space enough for a large sofa bed for guests to stay over.
Background to ‘Nina’
Nina was built in 2009 by M&D boat builders, and has had three owners in total (we are the third). She's got lovely detailing, including a Josher bow. We bought her in April 2018 planning to be on her for a number of years, and the survey we commissioned showed her to be in very good condition. We completed a number of 'upgrades' over our time onboard to improve her spec, as we wanted maximum convenience, and to make sure she'd stay in tip-top condition for the longer term. These included:
Hull: shot blasted back to bare steel, then epoxied, July 2018 (P&S Marine). Her hull was in excellent condition already (pitting of less than 1mm), but we wanted to keep her in excellent condition for the long term. The fact that her hull has been shot-blasted back to bare steel, then epoxied rather than blacked, means that Nina won't need to be taken out of the water for hull maintenance for another 5-10 years, at which point she will only need any epoxied patches repaired rather than the whole hull re-painted. This is a massive advantage over common blacking, which does not provide as good protection for boat hulls, and which requires more frequent and more intensive maintenance than epoxied hulls. Shot-blasting a hull back to bare steel and then epoxying it is a huge upfront cost (in the region of £6,000) for longer-term cost savings - so you as new owner can reap the benefit of our decision.
Security: strengthening measures undertaken to both bow doors and stern hatch; attractive metal bars installed across windows; new and improved locks.
Electrics: improvements to 240v and 12v wiring and fuses.
Securing solar panels onto adjustable brackets.
Complete rip-out and installation of new luxurious bathroom.
Installation of new boiler (Morco F11), May 2018 (Will Flannery) so that Nina now has two potential sources of hot water: gas boiler, or the calorifier (which heats water via the engine).
Improved ventilation under floorboards.
Woodwork improvement including new fitted galley drawers (solid oak), new storage, and bespoke solid oak/frosted glass porthole privacy covers.
Nina's engine was fully serviced and re-mounted, and a new ignition switch and cover installed, in February 2019 (Darren Crouch).
