The Grumbling Grennett is a 1999 60ft traditional that has been our happy home on the British waterways for eight years. All good things must come to an end and sadly we have left life on the water behind, so it is time to sell our little home.
The good parts -
Currently moored on Baltimore Marina in the market town of Todmorden, just down the valley (and canal) from the beautiful Hebden Bridge, with plenty of beautiful and rugged canal to cruise along the Calder Valley (of Happy Valley fame) and beyond. The marina is on the Rochdale canal, part of the Northern Pennine ring.
Mooring fees are very reasonable (£155pm) and there is secure parking and electric hook-up while gas, diesel and coal can also be delivered. The mooring should be available to transfer, subject to the mooring operator's agreement.
Recent BSS survey with 22/11/2027 expiry.
Solid epoxy coated hull. The Grennett was lifted and surveyed in May 2024 (copy available on request) and the hull was found to be in very good condition. All recommended spot welding repairs were carried out and epoxy paint reapplied.
12v / 240v dual electricity system supplied by shore power/engine or 3 leisure batteries with 1800w Sterling quasi sine wave inverter. The Grennett also has 4 solar panels with approximately 750w in total. Before being in a marina we were continuous cruisers (CCs) for six years or so and found the solar panel array was sufficient through most of the year. Certainly over the sunnier months this would run all your reasonable electric needs.
The Grennett an instant gas water heater which was serviced in November 2023 and the bathroom has a shower with bath set-up.
Kitchen had new worktops, hob and table in October 2020.
Full sized bed with very comfortable mattress (about five years old). There is no fixed additional beds instead a sofa bed in the lounge, meaning that there is additional spare room which can be used for additional storage, as a an office or as was until recently a child's bedroom!
The less good parts -
The Grennett has a diesel stove with a back boiler feeding two radiators. This was an excellent system that we used for all of the time we were CC-ing. It was very easy to light and once lit doesn't require any attention and also didn't involve having to constantly source coal and kindling so definitely recommended. Since being in the marina we used electric heaters and when we have tried to light the stove recently, no diesel would come through so the stove is in need of a service.
The above waterline external paintwork is in average condition and there are a number of scuffs and scrapes, and rust spots in particular on the roof and deck. It could do with a repaint in the reasonably near future. Internally it is also somewhat worn in places and could do with redecorating. We also never finished re-tiling the kitchen after the new worktops were put in but we do have the tiles which you are welcome to, no seriously please take them as they are a reminder of four years of failure. Finally, the internal floor is solid wood which is very pretty and durable but a few of the planks have lifted over the years and could do with relaying
