Originally designed by Keel Marine and built under BOT supervision at Tees Marine Services for service in the Antarctic, this very robust twin screw 18.2 metre steel displacement vessel was built to ship standard and carried an extended load line certificate. She was operated as a survey / research / safety standby vessel for offshore oil and gas projects, and as a diving support vessel, as well as charters to the Royal Navy.
The vessel is a true twin deck arrangement with full headroom below decks. Upper deck layout comprises of a large pilothouse, Large saloon, and enclosure for toilet in the saloon.
The pilothouse has watertight doors giving Port and Starboard access to the Portuguese Bridge as well as a watertight hatch leading up to the Fly Bridge. An access stairwell leads down from the Pilothouse to the forward accommodation as well as the primary access to the engine room via a bulkhead mounted watertight bulkhead door. All double glazed windows were supplied by TM Utley of Liverpool and consist of toughened 20mm glazing to the front and 12mm at the sides to exceed ocean going MCA code. Access opening is provided through to the saloon.
The large saloon has access to the aft deck via a watertight door, as well as a designed opening for a proposed spiral stairwell down to the aft accommodation area.
The lower deck consists of the forward accommodation area, engine room, aft accommodation area, and Lazerette separated by bulkheads.
The forward accommodation is accessed via a stairwell from the Pilothouse, and gives access to the engine room via a bulkhead watertight door. The bulkhead at the forward end of the forward accommodation includes a bolted access plate to the chain locker. The forward accommodation could cater for three berths but will comfortably provide for two berths.
The engine room is very large with loads of headroom and gives plenty space around each of the Gardner 6LXB engines. Ships batteries, engine batteries, hydraulic systems, 3kVA (220vac) static inverter power system and intelligent battery charger are located in the engine room. There is a secondary emergency access via a watertight door leading to the Port side deck. This is also the secondary exit from the forward accommodation via the engine room.
The Aft accommodation area is accessible via the proposed spiral stairway down from the saloon. There is access to the rear Lazerette from the Aft accommodation via a watertight bulkhead door which also provides for secondary emergency exit. This area will comfortably cater for six berths in two cabins plus a shower / toilet.
The aft Lazerette, accessible from the aft accommodation area, does not have full headroom, There is also access to this area via the large Hercules hatch on the aft deck. The hydraulic steering system is located in the Lazerette.
The previous owner installed twin Gardner 6LXB diesel engines fitted with Twin Disc gearboxes and integral Vickers hydraulic pumps to drive twin bow thrusters and a single stern thruster. The Gardner engines were a matched pair direct from the factory and installed under Gardner supervision. These engines have less than 800 hours running time.
The current owner has had the complete original superstructure removed and re-built with a large saloon and pilothouse arrangement with Portuguese bridge, as well as an additional steering position at the upper fly bridge level. The new topside was designed by naval architects and built at the Ardmaleish Boatyard on Bute. All doors and windows installed were for severe service to the MCA code. A new Torkmaster hydraulic anchor windlass was also added.
New TekDek decking has been fitted to the Portuguese Bridge, Aft Deck, and Fly Bridge. Both steering positions and the windlass are fully hydraulically connected.
The vessel being offered as an ongoing project and is now ready for a complete fit out by the new owner and to the new owners own specification. It has been designed such that it could be returned to survey / research service, but with the potential to convert to a private all weather / long range motor yacht.
The new layout was designed with consideration given to skippered charter requirements. The charter crew would have access from the pilothouse to the forward crew accommodation, engine room, upper fly bridge, and Portuguese bridge leading to the forward deck and along external side decks. The guest area would include the saloon, saloon toilet, aft accommodation, aft deck, and rear access up to the large boat deck.
All equipment removed for the conversion is boxed and labelled including:
2 x Furono Radar sets (Antennas already installed)
Sailor VHF and SW/MW radio sets
Compass / Fluxgate
Kobelt electronic engine controls / engine instrumentation
Thruster Controls
Vickers Hydraulic Controls
Decca Autopilot
EPIRB / SARTs / GPS
PAGA
Windscreen wipers (New - Still in unopened box)
Additional items:

The current owner has invested over £260k on design engineering, materials, equipment, and fabrication labour to date.
In consideration of the cost to complete the project involving the fit out of the accommodation areas, saloon, and pilot house, offers are invited.
The vessel is being sold As Is - Where Is,
A closing date may be notified at a later time.
She is currently located at the Fairlie Quay Boat Storage Facility in North Ayrshire.
