Najad 441 – “Arctic Fern” has taken a 4-page spread in Yachting World and is included in the book “In the wake of Heroes – Sailing’s Greatest Stories” by Tom Cunliffe which describes some of her travels into the Arctic. She also appears on a postcard for Galway City - Ireland. She was built with long distance high latitude cruising in mind, a task she has undertaken with ease. With a Kevlar reinforced hull and a water tight bulk head she is one of the safest and most comfortable vessels you could buy. If you wish to keep your family safe then she really is top of her game.
We are the third owners and bought her in 2015. She has taken us on a 7-year voyage from the UK, Ipswich, along the Atlantic coast, to the Mediterranean and Ionian Sea and back again. She has just been fitted with a brand-new mainsail, spray hood, cockpit enclosure, stack pack, interior upholstery and curtains and new house batteries. New carpets in 2023 covering the lovely wooden floors. She has been well loved and looked after.
Arctic Fern was built in 1998 by Najad in Sweden and has undergone various upgrades and refurbishment over the years including extensive electronics upgrades. She is high spec and includes a stainless-steel arch with solar panels that can swivel and davits for the dinghy. Electric Andersen winches, 6Kw generator, water maker, heating etc.
Interior Layout
Forward of the mast – Two similar cabins with upper and lower single berths, one to port and one to starboard sharing a toilet and shower. The toilet and shower are separate, to port and starboard respectively.
The main saloon has a u-shaped seating area to port with two very comfortable armchairs opposite. The chairs and seating area has recently had new upholstery. The galley is off the saloon on the aft starboard side with the nav station to port. From the nav station is a walkthrough aft which gives access to the engine room, wet locker for all wet weather gear / lifejackets and leads through to the aft cabin.
In the aft cabin, there is a double and a single berth which can be made into a super king size. Under passage the sleeping is very comfortable. The room has been maximised for storage so that liveaboard life can be easily maintained including storage compartments under the bed. There is an en-suite baby blake toilet and shower compartment.
All skylights have Oceanair Skyscreens fitted including mosquito screens. These were all replaced in 2016.
