PLEASE NOTE: ON A RECENT RUN ON THE THAMES SOME MINOR ISSUES CAME TO LIGHT. VIEWINGS ARE NOT POSSIBLE UNTIL THESE ISSUES ARE MADE GOOD. I DON’T WANT YOU TO VIEW THE BOAT UNTIL THESE ISSUES HAVE BEEN RESOLVED BY MY BOAT MECHANIC AND THE BOAT IS IN EXCELLENT ORDER THROUGHOUT . BY ALL MEANS EXPRESS YOUR INTEREST AND I WILL NOTIFY YOU WHEN THE BOAT HAS NO ISSUES. APOLOGIES. I EXPECT THESE ISSUES TO BE RESOLVED WITHIN 2 WEEKS. THANK YOU.
Recent survey. Please note that small works to bring her up to the best standard for sale such as new hinges on engine hatch, new gas struts (recently fitted within last week for engine hatch) are still proceeding. These small details didn’t worry me before but now I’m selling (breaking my heart!) I feel it’s important to get her up to best possible condition. Anti foul within last year. Boat Safety Certificate for use on Thames 2 years remaining.. New cooker with grill (never used). Brand new high quality canopy. Brand new bow thruster. Anchor in working condition. Cream leather to replace material on seating below decks in immaculate conditioning. Suitable for river and sea use with two Volvo 200 Penta H.Q. 41A 6 Cylinder diesel engines both in good condition. New fenders. A beautiful boat inside and out. Huge leather seated cockpit leisure area because of wide beam. These Princess 286s still have a classy wow factor look. I spend a lot of time overseas and just don’t have the time to enjoy her so must sell. If I wasn’t spending so much time away I definitely wouldn’t sell. I used to have her on the Med which was fun at 25 knots. They say 30 knots is max. but I reckon only on very calm sea or lake. But best to keep speed low to avoid high fuel costs. This won’t be a concern on inland waterways or if you keep to coastal waters at speeds of 20 knots or less. I rarely went over 20 knots which kept fuel costs low. Currently moored on the Thames near Oxford. Secure gated private mooring opposite Abingdon marina available at only £100 per month. The Princess 286 has excellent facilities including heating for cooler nights, shower with WC, oven, grill and refrigerator. Separate double bedroom and below decks the lounge/dining area seating can be converted to a king size bed. Extra double bed available in cockpit area with conversion facility as standard making it a possible six berth boat during warmer days or the out door types! Astern above decks there is a large leather seated dining area with table which is made to enable it to move below decks as required. WC/shower room isn’t huge but quite sufficient. Two sinks in kitchenettee area with fridge. Radio. Remember this is a 30 year old boat and although Princess boats are renown for their solidity and reliability and still luxurious in both below and above cabin leisure areas, there are the odd scratches. Marvellous for holidays on the river or for a more adventurous 25 to 30 knot journey across the Channel. Note that if used on Thames the speed limit is 5 - 8 knots maximum and petrol service stations are rare. Advice: if seeking a motor cruiser for inland rivers whether this one or a different one DON’T buy one with petrol fuel as not many places sell petro these days for safety reasons. Priced to sell quickly as I am overseas again on 1st October. This is a tidy example with the usual Princess fine handling (with the added benefit on this boat of brand new bow thrusters - those who have never used them change their mind on a windy day and watch other boats making amateurish attempts to moor up.) Usual high quality Princess build quality. Loads of storage space for food, equipment and clothing. Not many boats of this year and size compare to a Princess 286. There is plenty of interest but if I don’t sell within the next two weeks I’ll hold on to her for another year or two.

Excellent. The Princess 286 has a reputation for being a solid well constructed boat. Suitable for leisurely river holidays or adventurous journeys to Europe. I have her on the Thames in Oxford now but have enjoyed speeding across the Med at 30 knots. I think most advertise the 286 as a planing boat which averages 30 knots at full throttle. Yes she can do this on a very calm sea but to be honest I feel the top speed should be averaged at 25 knots and I rarely took her above 20 knots for comfort and economy. She planes well but I think 30 knots for this hull is not the average cruising speed but the very maximum in perfect conditions. The 2 200 HP Diesel Volvo Pentax are in good condition. Like all boats of this age you have to spend money on her from time to time. Whilst I only use her on the Thames now and don’t do any planing at 5 knots! I have just replaced one of the planing motors because it was making a noise and when checked by my mechanic it did look as though it had seen better days so it’s being replaced. I have recently put a new bow thruster in because I am lousy at mooring boats and parking cars. People say this is unnecessary when you have two throttle sticks but on a windy day the bower thruster is great and all those experts who think it’s unnecessary think I’m a genius because I can moor her up in strong winds and make a coffee whilst they’re still making their 10th attempt to come alongside. Are they jealous? Hopefully. Not cheap. Cost about £4K but worth every penny. The old canopy was ok but the brand new £2k one just gives it that extra bit of class. I’m a bit depressed because having spent money like this I will be spending more time abroad and a boat needs to be used regularly. You might want to change the name because I recently changed it to the names of my two daughters.
4 berth. Separate double bedroom with convertible leather seating below decks to convert to king size bed.
It passed its Boat Safety Certificate last year.
