The schooner Encounter (previously Genevieve) was lovingly built in Zimbabwe in 1998, then sailed to Greece, where she has been operated over the last 21 years by a non-profit charity, used primarily for extended trips with between 12 - 16 people aboard.
The layout is a forward hold/cabin with 7 berths and 1 shower/heads, then aft is four cabins, two showers/heads and an additional sea berth next to the main companionway.
The original design by William Garden, shows her carrying topmasts on both masts and a square sail on the foremast, none of which were ever fitted to facilitate easier sail handling.
The hull is wood with fibreglass sheathing (from new). Overall the sheathing is in good condition and is well bonded.
She is in a reasonable overall condition, however, the hull does require some work in places, mainly around engine/shaft space where the pig iron ballast was cemented in and the fuel tanks need the tops (saloon floor) resealing, or tanks fitting inside them.
She is not / has never been commercially registered, although it's assumed this could be achieved relatively easily if required.
She is admired wherever she sails and has many years of great service ahead for the right owner/organisation.
A recent survey has been completed and is available to serious parties.
