Norton Canes was established in 1986 when Graham Edgson took over an established boatbuilding business from Malcolm Braine. For over 30 years Graham and his team applied their engineering and fabrication skills to produce traditionally styled canal boats with fine lines, sweet curves and exquisite balance.

In 2015, Norton Canes made the move to Glascote Basin on the Coventry Canal. Later that year, Graham retired, and his daughter Sarah Edgson took over the day to day running of the business. Sarah learned the industry from the best, having worked for many years in her family’s business, and she gained valuable experience of brokerage over several years working with Dominic Miles at Rugby Boat Sales. A true narrowboat enthusiast, Sarah owns the ex-working craft Narrowboat Lamprey and serves as Chair of the Historic Narrowboat Club, which aims to preserve the traditions of our canal network.

At Glascote Basin we offer a ‘one stop shop’ for narrowboating excellence, including boat building, maintenance, brokerage and sales. (Our original Norton Canes site now operates as moorings only). Our boatyard team consists of 15 skilled professionals with expertise in carpentry, steelwork, engineering, painting and signwriting. The standard of our work is admired by owners and respected throughout the industry.
