We're selling our beautiful widebeam canal boat Harriet after cruising with her for little more than a year.
She's in a very good condition (close to new) and has been built to very individual specs:
High efficiency and low footprint: Fully solar-powered (6.3kW solar array, 96kWh forklift batteries, electrical engine, dual-fuel generator as backup), extremely well insulated (3x standard thickness insulation, triple-glazed windows), multi-fuel eco boiler stove, heat recovery ventilation, energy-efficient Miele appliances. In addition, we have used reclaimed material wherever possible, e.g. pallet wood panelling, reclaimed parquet floor, 80% recycled steel.
Autonomous and self-sufficient: In addition to the solar-electric system, Harriet has a multi-stage water filtration system (including UV and RO filters for drinking water) to be independent of external water supply, a composting toilet, HotBin composting system, and very reliable Internet via 4G router and an external omnidirectional LTE antenna.
Spacious and comfortable: 45sqm interior space divided into kitchen/dining/living room, bathroom and bedroom; custom kitchen with fridge freezer, dishwasher, induction hob and oven (all Miele), solid oak worktop and plenty of storage space; underfloor heating fed by the boiler stove and a 500l hot water buffer tank with an additional immersion heater; Miele washing machine; additional storage space in the custom-built stairs, the utility cabinet and the engine bay. Exterior space: front and back with ample seating and built-in storage, stairs to the roof, roof space for 2 deck chairs.
Harriet was built by Thames Solar Electric based on a Collingwood Boats hull; new boats of her size and specification are currently going for £219,000 (excl. VAT).
She has allowed us to not only live close to nature, but also minimise nature and wildlife disturbance – very little air and sound pollution, low footprint, and minimal external energy use. At the same time, living on the boat was extremely comfortable, even in winter, and very independent of external constraints.
We're sad to let her go, but changes in our life circumstances mean we have to move on – but we hope she will give someone else a similarly beautiful boating life as we have enjoyed it.
