1987 – A Moody 28 Twin Bilge Keel, “Merlin” is a classic Bill Dixon design, built by Marine Projects, Plymouth in 1987 under Lloyds certification. Merlin has GRP construction, sloop rig and twin keels. She benefits from a recent Survey report in May 2019 that concluded “Overall the vessel is judged to be in very good condition with evidence of good and comprehensive maintenance and upgrading. No evidence of major structural defects or damage was noted”. Upgrades since the survey in 2019 include new Standing rigging and a Seldon Furlex Headsail Furling system, fitted in 2020. She comes with a comprehensive service record and recent engine service. Merlin is currently afloat and lying in Gosport Hampshire.
Merlin is a fantastic family cruiser or equally suited to a single-handed sailor with all control lines leading to the cockpit. Her Bilge keel allows for creek hopping and mooring in shallow water when required.

Accommodation

Saloon – Standard spacious layout for a Moody 28, two settee berths, chart table and galley area. Moody blue cushion covers throughout. Galley has a two burner Plastimo gas cooker with grill fitted 2014, cool box & storage. Two gas bottle storage in cockpit. Two leaf folding table with bottle storage in centre of saloon. Central mast support replaced with stainless steel in 2010. Bilge keel bolts cleaned & epoxied 2011. Separate chart table with battery storage under seat. Forecabin – Double V shaped berth with infill and storage underneath. Storage shelves also in this cabin.

Aft Cabin – Double berth plus storage, Aft portlight in transom for extra light and ventilation. Access to battery, engine, sea cocks and shaft seal.

Heads – New Jabsco twist lock pump in 2017, Seamaster Sanitizer installed with all new pipes in 2018. Sink with hand pump and under cupboard storage.

Hull & Deck - The Hull was fully epoxied with professional Coppercoat finish in 2011. New hull anodes installed 2020, engine P bracket and shaft all wired to the anodes. All deck hatches replaced (Lewmar), all windows overhauled (acrylic and seals) 2012.

Engine(s)

Engine – Merlin is fitted with a Volvo Penta 2002 18hp diesel, 2 cylinder sea water cooled engine. The gearbox spline was modified in 2010. The engine was completely removed and underwent a total rebuild in 2012, now with only approx 500 running hours. The engine insulation was replaced at the same time. New 15” x 11” fixed 2 blade prop installed 2013. New Cutless Bearing fitted during her winter layup in 2019/20. The engine serviced in Dec 2020.

Sails & Spars

Rig – Sloop rig with new Standing Rigging fitted in 2020. New Seldon Furlex 204S Roller Reefing system installed 2020. Main and Spinnaker Halyards replaced 2020.The sails are a good quality, the main sail has plenty of life (very crispy) and roller furling genoa, also in good condition. New UV strip in 2013. We also have the spare original main sail for the boat, spinnaker & whisker pole. Kemp mast and boom with in boom (slab) 2 x reefing modification (Atlantic Spars 2011). All lines lead to the cockpit. Lazy jack sail storage. Usual winch arrangement 2 x Lewmar 30 two speed self-tailing genoa winches, 2 x Lewmar 8 halyard winches plus 1 x Lewmar mast reefing winch. Lewmar deck clutches & organisers.
