Overview:
As a sailaway Barkley would be a fantastic fit for both new and seasoned boaters who didn’t want to do masses of work upon moving in. Where the base plate has been overplated in 2017 and had a brand new engine installed in 2020 there won’t be any expensive surprises down the line. Between its creative storage solutions and open plan layout this would make a great home for solo boaters or couples.
Touch sensitive dimmable LED downlights line the insulated ceiling insuring good light for the during the evenings and darker winter months.
LIVING/DINING: Upon walking into the boat from the stern you have the “Hardy” multi-fuel stove on your left and the insulated toilet cubicle on your right.
Immediately beyond this landing area you have a versatile living space which can be arranged with a bench and breakfast bar giving you a central walkway for during the day OR, by pulling out the “breakfast bar” you can comfortably host a party of 4 for dinner/boardgames using the 2 benches (both benches coming with internal storage) and table.
On the external front facing wall of the toilet cubicle has the tech controls. These include a 12v cigarette lighter input, 240v 3-pin input, a 12v 20a battery reader with 2 x USB inputs for charging and the car radio interface. The car radio interface is AUX & Bluetooth compatible and serves four speakers spaced around the boat in a “surround-sound” fashion (fitted 2020).
There’s a second 240v hook-up by the multi-fuel burner.
TOILET: The toilet is a compost loo (which is moveable) with a divider. Boat comes with a compost bin. The space itself is lit with a brass goose-neck type vintage brass light and boast a small bookcase as well as a small moveable stack of drawers for tools, tapes, instruction manuals and odds & ends.
KITCHEN:
Moving down the boat we get to the kitchen. The central walkway is clear with a unit on either side of the boat. These units include a total of 7 drawers with brass handles, a MOFFAT 4-hob oven & grill gas stove, a sink with H&C, tiled surfaces and splashboards, 4 huge cavities for storage (one with railing for jackets/suits & a bespoke packaway shower cubicle that condenses into the right-side unit.
BEDROOM: In the bow of the boat, no front entrance beyond the bed. The double bed easily lifts up to reveal a huge amount of storage space and access to the internal water tank beyond the from bulkhead. Modest bookcase facing the bed on the end of units running along the left side of the boat.
HEATING:
I personally fitted the Hamlet Hardy 4 fitted in May 2020, with a mix of smokeless fuel and seasoned hardwood this great little stove easily heats through this open plan-boat. Even in the depths of winter you’ll find the need to leave your windows open and if lit correctly will burnt through the night quite happily. New chimney and top-hat fitted 2022.
WATER/GAS SYSTEM:
Barkley comes with a 150L (built-in) and 110L (external and covered) water tank both at the bow of the boat. The water serving the cold kitchen tap in stained and then double filtered.
The cold water is also feed through the engine heated boiler to serves the hot faucet in the kitchen and the hot for the shower.
The gas oven is serves by the 13kg propane bottle in the gas locker on the back deck (there is a second bottle so you won’t be without when the first runs out). 13kg propane bottles are the most common gas bottles available for this function available for all fuel boats as well as other on-land yards.
BATTERIES:
3 x new leisure batteries (2022)
1 x starter battery
