This was the first Westerly Renown off the production line and was displayed and purchased at Earls Court Boat Show in January 1972; where it was featured as Westerly's flagship vessel.
Named "Tor Renown "with sail number R1”. This vessel has only had one previous owner.
These yachts are flexible and versatile due to the Ketch configuration and mutli cabin layout.
She has had all the big jobs done so there is no major outlay to the new owner it’s a case of sail away and have fun.
R1 has had an extensive major refit during 2012-2013. No expense has been spared, with continuous love and tasteful upgrades.
Most recently, the original engine has been professionally bench stripped and rebuilt and the gearbox has also been upgraded which is still under warranty. New prop shaft and cutlass bearing. Stainless steel fuel tank with level indicator. New rudder bearings.
Tor Renown’s cockpit is large safe and inviting with a large spray hood with a rear zip section which encloses the forward part of the cockpit.
It also benefits a ready fitted frame work (canvas required) which would allow the remainder of the cockpit to be fully enclosed. A further benefit of the Renown, is the two berth aft cabin given great guest space or extra storage when required.
The main cabin interior is an absolute delight, it is very spacious and bright. The large windows give an airy feel about her. She has plentiful of stowage throughout - everything is clean and in tiptop condition.
This is a classic, at 52 years old, ketch - one of the best Renown’s out there. She gets pleasing comments everywhere we go and can easily be sailed single handed.
The yacht comes with a comprehensive history and receipts for all major works.
Any Viewing Welcome. The vessel is afloat in Plymouth.
I am an active member of the Westerly owners association and will continue to be so with my next Westerly.
