Wanderer class Bermuda sloop designed by Laurent Giles. The Wanderer class was made famous by Eric and Susan Hiscock who had the first one built in 1952 and sailed Wanderer 3 around the world three times. Wanderer 3 was the first Wanderer built by William King of Burnham on Crouch. Mary was built only a few miles away in 1983 by Arthur Holt in Maldon making her the last Wanderer built. The build of Mary was unusual. She is traditionally blanked but has no steamed timbers having laminated frames of approximately 2 inches by 2 inches at 12-inch centres and was not copper riveted but bronze screwed. Also unusual in the construction was on all frames there is a cast bronze floor. Not as in all the others built which were galvanised. Also, the beam shelf has a clamp fitted which goes the full length of the boat. Another unusual feature. Mary is without doubt the strongest Wanderer class yacht ever built.

Mary is based in South of Spain and regularly enters the classic yacht competitions in Barcelona, Palma Mallorca and Menorca. Mary is a wonderful boat to sail, admired where ever she goes. Capable of sailing easily around the world. Because of her very strong construction she is still in perfect condition. She will pass any survey. I have owned Mary 5 years and sailed from England as far afield as Sardinia.
