HYADES - Star Class Small Woolwich Butty
Built 1935 by Harland and Wolff and registered at Brentford No. 515. Hyades is Iron Composite with a wooden cabin.
Hyades has undergone a refurbishment programme over the past 5 years with new bottoms, gunnels, and footings work completed by Brinklow boats. The cabin was replaced with Sapele planks and resin ply skin. New Ellum & tiller 2017.
The cabin has been redecorated in a sympathetic style with scumbling and brass fittings. A Guidwife stove was fitted in 2017 and new cushions throughout in 2018.

Alsager is a butty of steel riveted construction and was built for London Midland Scottish Railway in 1934. She was used for interchange basin traffic in Birmingham until she was sold to British Waterways in 1955. She was the first of twelve to be converted to long distance boats when BW found they were short of butties and worked in the North West.
We bought her in 2011 to use as a workshop and has been used as such since that time. The under cloth conversion is by Simon Wain and the back cabin an original Rex Wain.

The Venice, one of very few remaining Fellows, Morton and Clayton butties, was built at Saltley and first registered in 1914. After the demise of serious canal carrying, she was abandoned and sunk on the Ashton and Peak Forest Canal and was dug up during the canal restoration and used as a mud hopper by the Lorenz brothers, who were based on the Bridgewater Canal at Bedford Basin, Little Leigh. Cygnus built by Harland and Wolff in 1935 as a Butty boat (no engine)
She worked originally for Grand Union Canal Carrying Co. then later for British Waterways and Willow Wren.
She has has just come out of full time carrying service on a commercial coal round and is now to be sold. The boat would make a wonderful heritage craft with a little finishing or would be well suited as a business boat or to work commercially.

This butty has been converted and has a cottage style interior design with solid wood furniture. The vessel was last out of the water in July 2019 for blacking and had a hull survey carried out. (Survey available for viewing).
Built in 1959. Refitted. Gardner 4LK diesel engine. 2 berth - fixed double in own cabin. Makuni diesel and Solid fuel stove with back boiler. Pump out toilet. BSC to 08/2021.
